Rasuwa Flood Disaster: A Call for Urgent Support

On 26 August 2026, a sudden and severe flash flood entered the Bhotekoshi River system from the Tibet side of the Nepal-China border, causing extensive destruction in Rasuwa District, particularly in Timure, Rasuwagadhi and Syabrubesi, as well as settlements along the Bhotekoshi and downstream areas. Preliminary reports indicate that the event was associated with a glacial/ice-related event in Tibet, although the exact cause and scale are still being verified. The disaster has resulted in loss of life, people missing or out of contact, displacement, destruction of houses, market areas, roads, bridges, hydropower infrastructure, other critical infrastructure and other public and private assets.

The government of Nepal has declared Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading as disaster-hit districts following the devastating floods, with the declaration effective for 3 months. All concerned authorities have been directed to mobilize resources and intensify search, rescue, relief and recovery efforts, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated humanitarian response and support.
