Sowers Action Supported VCN to build 25 Shelters in Helambu

Sowers Action, Hong Kong, China with Local Partner for Nepal, Volunteer Corps Nepal (VCN) has supported the victims of flood in Helambu Rural Municipality, with shelters to 25 most affected households.

The flash flood occurred on 15 th June 2021 and 31 st July 2021 had damaged 317 households in Helambu Rural Municipality. Sowers Action had then collaborated with VCN for an emergency response to flood immediately after the disaster. Following the response, a Recovery Project was initiated straightaway under which 25 houses have been constructed
in Ward no. 3, 4 and 7.

Along with this, Cash for Work scheme was also introduced by the project, where the affected population would work in houses construction and get paid for their work. Moreover, 125 households including the 25 families were provided with agricultural toolkits and high quality seeds of 4 different vegetables, to help them to revive their agricultural activity.

A Handover ceremony was carried out on 12th January 2021, where the 25 beneficiaries received the house from Sowers Action and VCN. Similarly, 125 household were supported with agricultural input during the same ceremony. Former Information and Communication Minister Mr. Mohan Bahadur Basnet, Patron of VCN, Major Kumar Gurung – MVO, Ward Chairperson Mr. Raj Kumar Lamichine, VCN’s President Mr. Deepak Chapagain, VCN’s Vice President Mrs. Radha Matangi, VCN’s working team, community members, Volunteers and other stakeholders were present during the event.

Similarly the president at VCN Mr. Deepak Chapagain expressed his happiness on being able to reduce the pain of the affected people. He articulated his wish of touching more lives through similar work in coming days. Also, he thanked the Rural Municipality team members for their coordination and gave special thanks to entire Sowers Action team; Ms. Hui Brianna the CEO and Johnny Lee the project head for Nepal for their amazing support and trust to Nepalese people and VCN.
